Here at Electric Book Company, we demonstrate use of today’s web standards to deliver innovative content designed change the way technical materials are published.
Technical content, be it for STEM education or product support, is often characterized by the use of complex graphics accompanied by lengthy text narratives. Unfortunately for consumers, the presentation technology (often PDF) does little more than electronically render pages of paper --- separating explanatory references from meaningful illustrations by layouts that encourage endless scrolling and searching.
There now exists enough technology to better connect illustrations with text references --- an approach which we call an ‘adjacent display’ model in which text passages are connected to animated elements of illustrations using Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) format.
We deploy this technology using two product lines.
Our Electric Booklets leverage content available through the publishers at OpenStax to present pages rendering many of the same example problems included in original peer reviewed textbooks.
The Origins line re-combines some of the best web-based content, as well extracts from popular books, to shed light on how the various branches of mathematics fueled the development of physical sciences to help us better understand our modern world.
We hope you enjoy browsing our content. And if your team is looking for a new way to communicate technical content to students, staff, or customers --- there is always the ‘Contact Us’ page.
